Mr. Bruce Alan Scotten, age 67 of Spring Hill, Tenn. passed
away Sept. 18, 2015 at the V.A Hospital in Nashville, Tenn.
He was born in St. Johnsbury, Vermont to the late Ernest and
Mildred Scotten. He received his Bachelors of Science degree
from Lyndon State College in Lyndon, Vermont. He became a
master guitar builder and moved to Spring Hill, Tenn. in 1976
where he opened the Apprentice Shop, a school for guitar
building and repair.
The Apprentice Shop was also the exclusive repair facility for
Gibson Guitars as well as designing and building Fender Guitar's
first American made acoustic guitar line. In August of 1998,
Bruce's health forced his early retirement from the work he
loved. After retirement he enjoyed designing and building
wooden clocks. His hope was for people to enjoy the projects
that he had made just as much as he enjoyed making them.
Bruce was a former Alderman for the City of Spring Hill and was
very active in the community. He was also a member of Spring
Hill Church of Christ.
Bruce leaves behind the love of his life, wife Jean Maupin of
Spring Hill, Tenn.; brother, George (Susan) Scotten of Hartland,
Vermont; sister, Mildred (Dwayne) Stahler of Nashville, Tenn.;
step-daughter, Debby (Rollie) Beard of Leipers Fork, Tenn.;
granddaughter, Tara (Matt) Rhea; great-grandsons, Slaid and
Jack Rhea and many many loving friends.
A Celebration of Life will be held 6 p.m. on Monday, September 21, 2015, with visitation from 3-6 p.m. at Spring Hill Memorial
Funeral Home. Craig Evans and Phil Bennett officiating. In lieu
of flowers, memorials may be made to the Spring Hill Church of
Christ Building Fund or to the charity of your choice.
