James "Jim" Bassett, age 76, passed away on Dec. 4, 2018. He was born in St. Johnsbury, Vt., on Nov. 14, 1942, to Alcide Punch and Marion Bassett. Jim graduated from Lyndon Institute in 1960 and shortly after joined the Navy. In 1964 he married Ann Leeman. While stationed in Key West, Fla., Jim retired from the Navy on June 11, 1979 as a Chief Petty Officer and moved to Lakeland, Fla. After retiring from the Navy, Jim worked for Piper Aircraft and the Polk Sheriffs Department.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents and a son, David Hadley. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Ann Bassett, his three daughters, Tammie Glazier (Damien), Lori Powers (Richard) and Sue Rager (Ned) and a son Jay Hadley (Alicia), his sister Lois Rattigan (Harold) and Marion Sargent (Scott), along with nine grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.
A private service was held on Monday, Dec. 31, 2018 at Lakeland Memorial Gardens, Lakeland, Fla.
