Mary E. Van Pelt, 77, of Mill St., Camden, passed away on Tuesday, January 12, 2016, at the Utica Nursing and Rehabilitation Center where she had been a resident since August 11, 2014.
She was born on June 17, 1938, in New Britain, CT, the daughter of Asa and Esther Bengston Brown. Mary was a graduate of Lyndon Institute in Lyndonville, Vermont. She moved to Camden in 1956 after she graduated high school.
On October 23, 1958, Mary was united in marriage to William M. Van Pelt, Sr., in Camden.
Mary was a nurse at Camden Medical Care for twelve years, retiring in 2008. She was previously employed by Mystic Stamp in Camden.
She was an avid bluegrass music fan and enjoyed sewing, doll making, and making quilts. Mary was a talented guitar player as well.
Surviving besides her loving husband of fifty-seven years, William; are five sons and three daughters-in-law, William M. Van Pelt, of Tuscon, AZ, Donelly A. and Patricia Van Pelt, Darrell A. and Leslie Van Pelt, all of Camden, Wendell J. and Erin Van Pelt, of New River, AZ, and Merrill R. Van Pelt, of Camden; ten grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; one sister, Ruthie Allard, of East Burke, VT, and a sister-in-law, Sue and Harry Meneilly, of Bernards Bay. Mary was predeceased by a son, Russell J. Van Pelt on October 14, 1967; a sister, Anita Grouten; and five brothers, Richard, William, Arthur, Asa, Harry, and James Brown.
Graveside services will be held in Forest Lawn Cemetery 3:00pm, Friday, April 29 under the direction of the LaRobardiere Funeral Home, Inc., 109 Main St., Camden, NY.
