Patricia L. (Bean) Garand, wife of Arnold J. Garand, of
Waterford, Vt., passed away at home Sunday morning, June 17, 2007,
after a long illness. She was born in Sutton, Vt., Oct. 16, 1934,
the daughter of Winfred and Hazel (Taylor) Bean.
Patty attended schools in East Burke, Vt., and Lyndonville, Vt.,
and graduated from Lyndon Institute in 1953. In her early
years, she worked as a secretary at Fairbanks Morse and Goss
Tire Company. She was an excellent homemaker, devoted wife,
mother and grandmother. She was very family-orientated. She
loved gardening (especially flowering plants), sports, music and
games, especially bingo. Patty and Arnold lost two of their
seven children, Lynette in 1994 and Mark in 2000. She is
survived by her husband, Arnold of Waterford (495 Lawrence
Road, 05819); five children, Gary Garand and Faye Bradley of
North Danville, Vt., Robbie Garand and Mary Fortin of St.
Johnsbury, Pamela Spencer and husband Ted of St. Johnsbury,
Peter Garand of St. Johnsbury, and Greg Garand and Deborah
Guinard of St. Johnsbury; 17 grandchildren; 10 great-
grandchildren; brothers Calvin Bean of Taylorsville, Utah, Benny
Bean and wife Marjorie of Lyndonville, and Larry Bean of St.
Johnsbury; and her sister, Elizabeth "Susie" Pearson of
Westfield, Mass. She was predeceased by two brothers, Melvin
Bean and Winfred "Peanut" Bean. Visiting hours will be held at
the Sayles Funeral Home Thursday evening 6-8 p.m. The family
will observe a private burial service the following day. Memorial

05819. Arnold wants to thank the nurses and doctors at NVRH
and at Norris Cotton Cancer Center, and especially the nurses
