NOYES: Isabelle M. "Belle," of South Wheelock Road, Lyndon,
died Saturday afternoon, Aug. 21, 2004, at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, N.H.,
surrounded by her family, at the age of 73. She was born May 3, 1931, in Kirby, Vt.,
daughter of George and Lida (Croteau) Surridge Sr. Belle
graduated from Lyndon Institute, Class of 1949. On July 2, 1949, she married Arland D. Noyes. Belle worked for the U.S.
Postal Service for over 35 years, and was the post master in
Sheffield for many of those years. Prior to that, she worked at
Vt. Tap and Die Co. in Lyndonville as a secretary during the 1950s and 1960s. She also owned and operated Belle's Gun
Shop on the South Wheelock Road. Memberships include being
a director of the Hand to Hand Christmas Program in her area;
she served as secretary and treasurer of the St. Johnsbury Gun
Club; was a past officer and news editor of NAPUS (postal
service); NRA member; and was a guardian for many people in
need. During tax season, she prepared income taxes for people.
Belle enjoyed people and always put others before herself,
helping in any way she could. She loved to cook, enjoyed
country music, playing Bingo, but most of all, spending time
with her family and friends. Survivors include her husband of 55 years, Arland Noyes of Lyndon; one son, Carroll "Bub" Noyes
and Sharon of Wheelock; one daughter, Linda McDonald and
her husband Jim of East Burke; two grandchildren, Casey and
Ryan McDonald, both of Burlington; her mother, Lida Surridge
of Kirby; one brother, Paul Surridge and Niki Lumi of Wheelock;
four sisters, Ethel Knapp and her husband Howie of
Connecticut, Betty Hudson and her husband Erton of Florida,
Helen Gilman and Ron Sherburn of Lyndon, and Diane Surridge
of Florida; four aunts, Evelyn Santy of Massachusetts, Helena
Cushman of Kirby, Teresa "Flossie" Lesperance of Kirby, and
Nellie Surridge of New Hampshire; three sisters-in-law, Edna
Surridge of Lunenburg, Lucy Surridge of Barnet, and Rena
McGinnis and her husband Richard of New Mexico; and many
nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends. She was
predeceased by her father, George Surridge Sr.; and two
brothers, Raymond Surridge and George Surridge Jr. Funeral
services will be held Wednesday, Aug. 25, at 11 a.m., at the
Lyndon Center Baptist Church with the Rev. Barbara Dwyer
officiating. Burial will follow in Lyndon Center Cemetery. There
will be no visiting hours. In lieu of flowers, donations made in
