Harry Lewis Goodsell of Water Street, Wells River, Vt. passed away Saturday
evening (Aug. 13, 2016) at Grafton County Nursing Home in Haverhill, N.H. He was 86.
Born on Aug. 15, 1929 in Winooski, Vt., he was the son of John and Helen (Johnston) Goodsell.
Harry was a 1948 graduate of Lyndon Institute in Lyndon Center, Vt.
On July 9, 1948, he married Gertrude Ila Noyes.
In earlier years, he was employed by the Boston and Maine Railroad, until
he began his career with the State of Vermont Department of Corrections.
He rose through the ranks to become the Superintendent of the St.
Johnsbury State Correctional Facility for several years and retired in 1991
from the Department of Corrections as the Supervisor of Probation and Parole.
In retirement, he enjoyed attending his grandchildren's sporting events. He
was an avid fan of Boston Sports Teams and the Montreal Canadians. He
and his wife traveled to every state except Alaska, and they enjoyed
vacationing at Pompano Beach, Florida and Colorado. Big Band Music was
his favorite music, especially "Count Basie."
He leaves his loving wife of 67 years, Gertrude I. Goodsell of Wells River, Vt.;
a daughter Lana G. Leene and her husband James of Waterbury Center, Vt.;
three grandchildren Kate Leene and fiancé Christopher Godfrey of South
Hadley, Mass., Brennan Leene and wife Gillian Russell Leene of Palm Beach
Gardens, Fla., and Kara Leene Saleeby and husband Ramsey Saleeby of Washington, DC.
A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 20 at the family lot
at Lyndon Center Cemetery in Lyndon Center, Vt. Rev Jane Wilson will
officiate. There are no calling hours.
