Edwin H. "Mickey" Houghton, of Lyndon, died Thursday
afternoon, May 26, 2005, at The Pines Rehabilitation and Health
Center in Lyndon, at the age of 75. He was born Jan. 22, 1930,
in Lyndonville, son of the late Paul A. and Ruby L. (Page)
Houghton. Mickey graduated from Lyndon Institute's Class of
1948. In 1949 he graduated from the Vermont School of
Agriculture in Randolph, Vt. On Oct. 31, 1950, he married
Beryle Rivers. Mickey worked for many years as a carpet and
linoleum installer for Sullivan's Furniture in St. Johnsbury, and
later for Paul's Wayside Furniture in Lyndon, and after that he
worked as a self-employed flooring installer. He had also
worked for Palmer Brothers Dry-cleaning in St. Johnsbury;
DHIA as a milk tester at area farms; and for 18 years he
worked as the custodian at Lyndon Corner Graded School.
Memberships include Green Mountain Grange 1, Shepard
Pomona Grange, Vermont State Grange, Enterprise Grange of
Lyndon Corner, and was a past president of the Lyndon
Historical Society. He also taught history and gave slide shows
to local schoolchildren, and worked on the Fairbanks Museum
Craft Days for many years. He and his wife, Beryle, operated a
private museum of various collections in their home for many
years as well. Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Beryle
Houghton of Lyndon; a son, Paul C. Houghton and his wife
Carmen of Concord; two daughters and their husbands,
Kathleen and Lawrence Simpson of Lyndon, and Beth and Lyle
Degreenia of East Haven; seven grandchildren; seven great-
grandchildren; a brother, Phil Houghton of Kirby; a sister,
Pauline Taylor and her husband Albert of Kirby; a sister-in-law,
Laura Rivers of Concord; a brother-in-law, William Bedor of
Littleton, N.H.; and nieces and nephews. He was predeceased
by a son, Dana S.S. Houghton in 1978; two sisters-in-law,
Dorothy Houghton and Winona Bedor; and a brother-in-law,
Carlisle Rivers. Funeral services will be held Sunday, May 29, at
1p.m. at Guibord Funeral Home with Mr. John Sleeper
officiating. Burial will follow at Lyndon Center Cemetery. Friends
may meet with the family Saturday evening from 6-8 at the
funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations made in Mickey's
memory may be directed to the Fairbanks Museum, 1302 Main
St., St. Johnsbury, VT 05819; or to The Pines Patient Activities
Fund, 601 Red Village Road, Lyndonville, VT 05851.
