Ruth McNally, 87, of South Prospect St. in Lyndonville passed away at her
home on Thursday, Dec. 29, 2016 with son Steve and daughter-in-law
Candy at her side. For the past year she was able to stay at home with
the tender care Steve and Candy and family were able to give her.
She was born in Lyndonville on Nov. 24, 1929, the daughter of Roy and
Grace (Scott) Smith. She attended Lyndon Graded School and graduated
from Lyndon Institute with the class of 1947.
She and her husband Robert owned and operated the Town and Country
Restaurant in Lyndonville, her husband Bob dying suddenly in 1981 at the
age of 52. She was also predeceased by her son Richard in 2009, by her
two sisters Evelyn Gibson and Marjorie Bean, and by her brother Warren Smith.
Ruth especially loved cooking up a mess of food and then giving it all away
to friends and family. She loved the simple things in life like working
around the house, mowing the lawn and tending to her gardens. In her
younger years she golfed at St. Johnsbury Country Club and enjoyed time
spent fishing especially on Lake Champlain.
She is survived by her son Stephen and his wife Candy of Lyndonville; 5
grandchildren: Robert, Joshua, Keri, and Stephen McNally, and Amber
Bollman; 5 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
On Saturday, Jan. 7, the family would be pleased to have you stop by her
home at 95 South Prospect St. in Lyndonville anytime between the hours of 1-4 in the afternoon.
Burial will be at the convenience of the family in June at Woodmont Cemetery in East Burke.
Memorial contributions, marked in Ruth's memory for 'Hospice', could be
directed to 'Caledonia Home Health, 161 Sherman Dr., St. Johnsbury VT 05819.
The family would like to greatly thank Dr. Ready and Dr. Dobberton along
with the nurses and aides at Caledonia Home Health and Hospice for their wonderful care.
