GARDYNE: Robert W. "Bob," of Derby Line, passed away
Thursday morning, May 29, 2003 at North Country Hospital in
Newport, surrounded by his family. Bob was born in 1927 to
Harvey and Nellie Gardyne of North Troy, and graduated from
Lyndon Institute. He was a strong athlete, and one of his track
records stood for many years. He later attended Tilton School
and Springfield College, and also served in the U.S. Navy. Bob
was employed for almost 40 years at Union-Butterfield, now
Tivoly. He was foreman of the shipping room and later worked
in sales. Besides his family, Bob's passion was for golf. He was
a member of the Dufferin Heights Country Club for many years
and reigned as club champion for several years in the 1960s.
Bob's first love was his wife and family. He and Barb celebrated
their 50th wedding anniversary last summer. Bob loved to dote
on his grandchildren, Marin, Sean and Kate, and followed all
their activities and interests. He is survived by his wife of 50
years, Barbara; three sons, William and wife Nancy and
daughter Marin of Derby, Steven and wife Jean and children
Sean and Kate of Maple Glen, Pa., and Scot and wife Cindy of
Derby; two sisters, Virginia Stufflebeam of Bradenton, Fla., and
Jean Webster and husband Karl of Blue Hill, Maine; and a
sister-in-law, Beryl Gardyne of Derby Line. He was predeceased
by his parents, and his brother, Harvey Jr. "Bruz." Graveside
services will be held Saturday, May 31, at 2 p.m., at the Derby
Center Cemetery, with the Rev. Sidney Lambert officiating.
Interment will follow. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be
made to the Derby Line Ambulance Service, in care of Brian
Fletcher, P.O. Box 105, Derby Line, VT 05830.
