Beverly I. Lawson, 81, a lifelong Lyndonville resident, passed
away Monday, April 2, 2007, at Northeastern Vermont Regional
Hospital surrounded by family. She was the daughter of the late
Walter and Catherine (Webster) Mitchell. She was born Jan. 27, 1926,
in Lyndonville. Beverly was a graduate of Lyndon
Institute and received a teaching degree from Lyndon State
College. She taught school for 52 years, teaching in Wilson,
N.Y., Hardwick, Newark Street School (principal), Burke, St.
Johnsbury and the Lyndon Campus School, just to name a few.
Beverly retired on two different occasions, but returned to
teaching as she missed being with the children. She married
Edwin A. Lawson on Aug. 1, 1952. He predeceased her Oct. 8, 2004.
She was an active member of the Sutton Freewill Baptist
Church and the Lyndonville Historical Society. She enjoyed
teaching, enjoyed flowers and sewing. She made many prom
and wedding dresses as well as clothing for her family. Beverly
was active in local politics, was justice of the peace and was a
staunch Republican. Beverly is survived by her children, John
Hall and companion Cheryl Robinson, Diane Rochefort and
husband John, Edwin Lawson Jr. and wife Karen, Jeffrey Lawson
and companion Lisa Crown, and Alice Doyon and companion
Leigh Griffith; brothers David and Cappy Mitchell, Jack Mitchell,
Leslie and June Mitchell, and Carrol and Brenda Mitchell; 12
grandchildren, John, Jeff and Seth Hall, Ryan and Wendy
Robinson, Nicholas and Wendy St. Hilaire, Mark St. Hilaire,
Heather and Elizabeth Lawson, Jeremy and Christy Lawson, Erin
and Peter Guilfoyle, and Andrew and Mathew Doyon; seven
great-grandchildren; two great- great-grandchildren. Calling
hours will be at Pearsons Funeral Home on Friday, April 6, from
2 to 4 p.m. and again from 6 to 8 p.m. A memorial service will
be Saturday, 11 a.m. in the Sutton Freewill Baptist Church with
Pastor David Colwell, officiant. Beverly will be laid to rest near
her husband in the Lyndon Center Cemetery later this spring.
