West Burke, VT: Phyllis Gwendolyn Burbank, age 91, of Newark Street
passed away at her home surrounded by her close friends on Tuesday,
December 6, 2016, following a prolonged period of failing health.
Phyllis was born in Burke, VT, on May 20, 1925, daughter to the late
George Maurice and Blanche Lestina (Tyler) Burbank. She was a lifelong
resident and graduated from Lyndon Institute in the Class of 1943. Phyllis
worked as a dairy farmer and sugar maker for 16 years and later went
UVM receiving her B.S. in Medical Technology in 1963. She then worked as
a Medical Tech at Brightlook Hospital and at NVRH for 8-9 years before
running for Town Clerk in Burke, an office she held for nearly nine years.
Phyllis was very active in the community for many years. She enjoyed
spending time at camp on Lake Memphremagog in Derby which her family
built in the 1950's. She also enjoyed spending time with family and
neighbors, travelling throughout Vermont and the USA.
She is survived by her 1st cousins: Nancy, Pauline, 2nd cousins: Margaret,
Robert, Paula, Christine, Dorothy, Gloria, Maurice, Ruthie, and a
tremendous amount of friends that will miss her as well as the entire community.
She was predeceased by her 2 brothers: George Burbank, Jr. at the age of 4 1/2,
and Lawrence D. Burbank who was killed stateside in a plane crash in WWII in in 1943.
A celebration of Phyllis' Life is planning to be held after the first of the year
at the Burke Sr. Meal Site.
A private Graveside Service will take place at Hillside Cemetery in W. Burke in the Springtime.
