Catherine P. Switser, 89, of West Burke passed away on Sunday, May 3, 2015 at the Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital. She was born on Oct. 24, 1925 in Lyndonville, Vt. She was the Daughter of Earl and Vera (Ruggles) Powers. Kay and her husband Bob both grew up with horses in the West Burke area and went on to become respected and dedicated horse people. Since 1954 to present, Kay and Bob have taught, trained, fed, housed, supported, coached, loved and trucked many kids, adults and horses, that no one could possibly name them all...well, except for Kay and Bob, who probably have not forgotten any of them. Many of us have vivid memories of the Switsers ...Kay with her jam-packed lesson book sitting in the corner of the arena with her microphone, helping riders with diagonals, "up, up ,up" and correct leads, working on positions, "Heels down, toes-up." She is survived by her son Robert Switser and his significant other Sue Cross of Concord, Vt., one grandson, Shane Switser and his wife Emily of Lyndonville, five great-grandchildren, Olivia, Colby, Ella, Lucas, Natalie, and one great-great- grandchild, Sophia. She is also survived by her close friends Ralph and Betty Jackson, Donnie and Lynn Norris, Vickie Graves, Sue Mackin, and many more friends who were able to check in and care for Kay on a daily basis. She was predeceased by her parents, her sister Lucille Powers, and by a grandson, Joshua Switser. Visiting hours will be held on Friday, May 8 at the Pearsons Funeral Home from 5 to 7 p.m. A graveside service will be held on Saturday, May 9 at the Hillside Cemetery in West Burke, Vt. at 10 a.m. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be marked in Kay's Name to the Meals on wheels program in West Burke, Vt.
