Josephine Irene White, 82, of Hardwick, formerly of Walden,
died Monday, Nov. 6, 2006, at the Copley Hospital in
Morrisville. She was born July 19, 1924, in St. Thomas, Ontario,
Canada, the daughter of the late Joseph and Irene (Pritchard)
Ross. She attended Lyndonville public schools and graduated
from Lyndon Institute in the Class of 1942. She continued her
education as a nursing student at the Royal Victoria Hospital in
Montreal. On Aug. 29. 1948, she married Richard Wilmarth
White in Lyndonville. He died Sept. 23, 1990. In her earlier
years, she was a waitress at the Darling Inn in Lyndonville and
the Willoughby Lake Boulders in Westmore. For 17 years, she
was the foundry time-keeper and payroll clerk at Fairbanks-
Morse in St. Johnsbury. She later worked with her husband at
Dicur Small Engines in Hardwick. She retired in 1976. Mrs.
White attended St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in St. Johnsbury.
She was past matron of the Mystic Chapter 29 Order of Eastern
Star in St. Johnsbury; a member of the Coles Pond Sledders;
and past secretary and treasurer of the Coles Pond Association.
She enjoyed needle crafts, crocheting and needle point.
Survivors include a son, Alan R. White of St. Thomas, Ontario;
two daughters, Edna Lynch of St. Louis, Mo., and Betty Lu
Shedd of Hardwick; two sisters, Kathleen Foster of Boca Raton,
Fla., and Theresa Kelley of Richmond, Va.; seven
grandchildren; seven stepgrandchildren; 10 great-
grandchildren; as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A memorial service will be held Monday, Nov. 13, 2006, at 5
p.m., at the Northern Vermont Funeral Home, 60 Elm St.,
Hardwick. Burial will be at the convenience of the family in the
Lyndon Center Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her
memory may be made to the Mount Sinai Shriners Hospital,
P.O. Box 742, Montpelier, VT 05602; or to the Lamoille Area
Cancer Network, P.O. Box 38, Lake Elmore, VT 05657.
