Lucy B. Caron, 90, formerly of Lyndonville, died Sunday
morning January 15, 2012 at the home of her caregiver in St. Johnsbury.
She was born September 18, 1921 in Charlestown, NH, the last
surviving child of Loren and Bertha (Abbott) Smith. On
September 30, 1939 she married Albert E. Caron. At the age of
sixty-four, Lucy was proud to earn and receive her high school
diploma from Lyndon Institute.
Lucy was the manager/director of the Lyndon Area Senior
Center in Lyndonville for nearly twenty years. She retired in
December 2004. She enjoyed playing bingo, traveling, taking
bus tours around the northeast and wintering in Maryland and
Delaware. A devoted mother and grandmother, spending time
with her family was most important to her.
Survivors include four children, Barbara Piunti of Newark, DE,
Edward Caron and wife Karen of St. Johnsbury, Albert Caron of
St. Johnsbury, and Judy Newland and husband Daniel of East
Burke, (P. O. Box 236, 05832); twenty-three grandchildren;
eighteen great grandchildren; a son in-law, Charles Radcliffe of
Annapolis, MD; a sister in-law, Ruth Smith of Charlestown, NH;
a brother in-law, Carl Gowey of Claremont, NH; special friends,
Fran and LelandTaylor and Kathy McGowen all of Lyndonville;
many nieces and nephews; and her caregiver, Alicia Persons of St. Johnsbury.
She was predeceased by her parents; a daughter, Shirley
Radcliffe; a son in-law, Richard Piunti; three grandchildren,
Suzanne, Bobby, and Richard; five brothers, Frank, Rolla,
Nelson, Hurdis, and Francis Smith; two sisters, Ava Gowey and
Rachel Lang; and a special friend, Curtis LaBay.
Graveside funeral services are being planned for midsummer at
Lyndon Center Cemetery and will be announced at a later date.
