WISHART: Joyce Gilman, 82, of Essex Junction, and formerly of Lyndon Center, Middlebury and Elon College, N.C., died Monday, Sept. 1, 2003, surrounded by her family. She was born in Lyndonville, June 2, 1921, the daughter of the late John and Helen Gilman. Mrs. Wishart graduated from Lyndon Institute and attended the University of Vermont where she excelled in Latin and Greek. She married George Wishart April 12, 1941, who predeceased her. She worked at Lyndonville Savings Bank and later became assistant to the dean of students at Middlebury College where she amassed many long- time friends and colleagues. Mrs. Wishart also enjoyed higher education work experiences at the University of New Hampshire and Plymouth State College. A committed community servant and volunteer, Mrs. Wishart's outreach activities included volunteer work at Elon's Children's Home, Community Kitchen, Memorial Hospital, many sponsorships of children through the Christian Children's Fund, and countless church projects and missions. Her final years were spent with her cherished family and friends in Essex Junction. She leaves two sons, Joe Nunn and wife Karen of Bridport, Vt., and Robert Wishart and wife Roberta of Burlington, N.C.; three daughters, Margaret Moss and husband Greg of Coral Springs, Fla., Elizabeth Traver and husband Andy of Essex Junction, and Patricia Dent and husband John of Foxboro, Mass.; her sister, Helen O'Neil and brother-in-law Howard of Essex Junction; her brother-in-law, James Wishart of Louisville, Ky.; 12 grandchildren; 10 great- grandchildren; and many dear nieces, nephews and friends. A memorial service will be held Thursday, Sept. 4 at 11 a.m. at St. James Episcopal Church, Essex Junction. Funeral services will be conducted Friday, Sept. 5 at 11 a.m. at St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Lyndonville. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations to the George Wishart Scholarship Fund, Class of 1940, Lyndon Institute, Lyndon Center, VT 05850; or to the VNA, 1110 Prim Rd., Colchester, VT 05446.
