Mildred E. Stahler of East Barnet passed away Monday, April 9, 2007,
at the The Pines in Lyndon at the age of 86. She was
born in Lyndonville on July 18, 1920, the daughter of John and
Teresa (Nolan) Rice. She graduated from Lyndon Institute in
1938 and married Howard H. Stahler Aug. 15, 1942. The
Stahlers had lived at their Route 5 home since 1946. Mildred
was a bookkeeper and had a good sense of business. She
worked at the old Lyndonville Creamery, Fairbanks, for Forrest
Grapes and Walker Brock and Dave Russell, and McLaren's
Farm Equipment. After retirement, Mildred worked part-time at
the Barnet Town Clerk's office. She served on the Barnet school
board during the 1960's. She was a parishioner of St. John the
Evangelist Church and taught catechism classes. Her family
came first. She seemed happiest when they were all around her
table. She sure enjoyed her kitchen. No one left her home
hungry. They will always remember her donuts. A proud lady,
she had a wonderful sense of humor and a quick Irish wit. She
is survived by her husband, Howard Sr. (1546 US RT 5, St.
Johnsbury 05819); four children, Fran Fissette and husband
Bert (673 Walsh Rd., Waterford 05819), Robert H. Stahler (659
High Ridge Rd. Waterford 05819), Howard H. Stahler Jr. and
wife Cheryl (485 Daniels Farm Rd., Waterford 05819), and
Elaine Gray and husband Ron (3039 Old County Rd. Waterford 05819);
six grandchildren, Michael Fissette, fiancee Carey and
her children Cicley and Dale, Ryan Fissette, wife Amber and
their son Cameron, Lindsey and Justin Stahler, and Christopher
and Meghan Gray; and nieces and nephews. Predeceased by
her three brothers, 'BJ', Harold, and John Rice, she is also
survived by three sisters-in-law, Bernice Stahler of Lyndonville,
Norma Stahler of Wheelock, and Marjorie Zamoic of Meriden,
Conn. A funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Johnsbury
Thursday, April 12, at 11 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist
Church. Burial will be in May at St. Elizabeth Cemetery in
Lyndonville. Visiting hours will be held in Lyndonville at the
Guibord Funeral Home Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorial
contributions may be directed to either The Pines (marked for
