Elsie L. Nutting, 94, of Lyndonville, died Tuesday morning Jan. 24, 2012, at The
Pines Rehabilitation and Health Center in Lyndon with her family by her side.
She was born Aug. 27, 1917, in Springfield, Vt., the daughter of Clayton
and Vera (Ball) Smith. She graduated from Lyndon Institute in 1937.
On July 4, 1937, she married Milburn "Red" Nutting. They lived and raised
their family in Lyndonville. During the 1960s she taught drivers education at
Lyndon Institute. She then worked as a nurse's aide for many years at the St.
Johnsbury Convalescent Center retiring in 1979.
Elsie was a long-time member of the Women's Bowling League
at Gold Crown Lanes in St. Johnsbury which she enjoyed very
much. She enjoyed cooking, spending time with her family and
knitting. She operated a shop out of her home for many years
called the Knit-Nook, selling knitting supplies and yarns. One of
her greatest accomplishments was becoming the Vermont state
queen for T.O.P.S., a weight loss support group. She had also
been a member of Eastern Star.
Survivors include three daughters, Janice Nutting of
Lyndonville, Dorothy Borsodi and her husband Albert of
Waterford, Vt., and Mary Schoonover and her husband Richard
of Lyndonville, seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren
and seven nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents; her husband Milburn
"Red" Nutting in 1997; a son, Daniel Nutting in 1994; and a
sister, Violet Davis.
Private graveside services will be held in Lyndon Center
Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
