MUNKITTRICK: Mrs. Evelyn (Hunter), of St. Johnsbury, Vt., passed away Wednesday evening, April 7, 2004, at the St. Johnsbury Health & Rehab Center at the age of 96. The daughter of Asa and Jenny (Cole) Hunter, she was born in the Mt. Hunger section of Kirby and grew up on the farm with her brother, Charles, and her cousin, Leo Cole, who was raised as part of the family. Her brother was the seventh generation Hunter to reside there on the farm. Evelyn graduated in 1926 from Lyndon Institute and later from Lyndon Normal School. She had worked at HP Hood, Randall and Whitcomb's, and Parker Drug Store. In 1979 her husband, Lawrence T. Munkittrick, passed away. She spent many happy years residing at the Brightlook Apartments on Summer Street. In 2000 she left Brightlook and spent eight months at The Sunset Home, entering the Health & Rehab Center in October 2001. She looked forward to Arnie's daily visits and the weekly visits by several of her dear friends. She is survived by two sons, Raymond Munkittrick and his wife Jackie of San Bernardino, Calif., Arnold Munkittrick and his wife Barbara of St. Johnsbury (184 Breezy Hill Road 05819); eight grandchildren and their families. She had the misfortune of being predeceased by three grandchildren: Pamela Bisacre in 2000, Susan Munkittrick, and Raymond "Chip" Munkittrick. Public graveside services will be held Wednesday, May 12, at 2 p.m. at the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery with the Rev. John Marshall officiating. There will be no public visitation. In her later years Evelyn's sight failed her; she was very appreciative of the audiobooks furnished by the St. Johnsbury Athenaeum. Memorial contributions could be directed to St. Johnsbury Athenaeum, 1171 Main St., St. Johnsbury, VT 05819. Or, memorial contributions, marked for the "Employee Activity Fund" could be directed to St. Johnsbury Health & Rehab Center, 1248 Hospital Drive, St. Johnsbury, VT 05819, in recognition of the fine care she received there.
