Ronald D. "Ron" Gilman , 61, of Lyndonville, died Friday, June 12, 2009, at
St. Johnsbury Health and Rehabilitation Center, with his wife Janet at his
side. He was born Sept. 16, 1947, in St. Johnsbury, the son of Elbert and
Leonora (Brown) Gilman. A graduate of St. Johnsbury Trade School, Ron
later entered the U.S. Air Force. He served for several years and was a
sergeant when he was honorably discharged in 1973. He worked as a
truck driver for St. Johnsbury Trucking Co. for nearly 20 years. He then
worked at Kennametal, formerly VT Tap & Die Co., for 14 years. Music was
a very important part of Ron's life. He played guitar, mandolin, fiddle, and
sang for many years at dances and functions with several area bands
including, Best of Friends Band, Country Americans, Gone Country, North
Bound, and the Krazy Kountry Band. He also was very good at fixing
things, mechanics, and he enjoyed bowling. Survivors include his wife,
Janet (Summers) Gilman of Lyndonville (P.O. Box 1082, 05851); a
daughter, Mariko Raymond and husband John of Lyndonville; two sons,
Ricky Christian and David Christian both of Kentucky; a brother, Terry
Gilman and wife Patricia of East Concord; a sister, Susan Gilman of
Claremont, N.H.; seven grandchildren, Kurtis, Cameron, Delaney, Veronica,
Ricky, Connor, and Chandler; Janet's children, Mark Simpson and wife
Janet and family of Lyndonville, Jeffrey Simpson and wife Mary and family
of Lyndonville, Michael Simpson and wife Wendy and family of Barnet, and
Deborah Webber and husband DC of East Haven; nieces, nephews, and
many friends. He was predeceased by his parents. Graveside funeral
services will be held Friday, June 19 at 3 p.m. at Mount Pleasant Cemetery
in St. Johnsbury. There will be no calling hours. Donations made in his
