Irene L. Davies went home to be with the Lord Wednesday, June 10, 2015, at the age of 95.
Irene was born to Wilbur and Edna (Lapanne) Hill in St. Johnsbury, Vt.,
and considered St. Johnsbury her only home throughout her life. She
attended Mt. St. Joseph Academy and St. Johnsbury Academy. During her
childhood she traveled summers with her parents for her father's
business. As a young woman she exhibited a strong love of fashion and
beauty. The color palette was very important to her. She had a love of
music also and from childhood on she played the piano after having
received lessons from Mamie Gauthier.
When WWII started Irene went to Connecticut and worked at New
Departure making airplane parts for the war effort. When the war ended
she returned to her beloved St. J. Family was most important to her and
she enjoyed frequent visits from relatives in Connecticut and Florida.
When her mother became ill Irene saw to her care until it became too
difficult to do alone. She frequently visited her mother at the Convalescent Center.
She always took a special pride in her grandson and his scholastic
achievements. Irene retired from NVRH after many years in the dietary
department. In her retirement she developed an interest in antiques and decorating.
She is survived by her daughter and her husband, Shirley and Bruce
Anderson, a grandson Brian York, a cousin and his wife, Alphonse and
Stella Lapanne, a cousin Barbara Bessette, a cousin Cathy Guzda, and several other relatives.
Sayles Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements and there will be no
calling hours. A funeral mass will be celebrated at St. John the Evangelist
on Monday, June 15, 2015, at 2 p.m. Burial will be held at Mt. Calvary
cemetery following the service, weather permitting, and a gathering of
family and friends will take place at the church hall as well.
