Henry A. Lund, 85, formerly of St. Johnsbury, died Saturday, Feb. 28, 2009, at the Pines
Rehabilitation and Health Center in Lyndon, following a brief illness.
He was born Nov. 3, 1923, in Granby, the son of Edward C. and Gladys L. (Tyler) Lund.
Henry was schooled in Granby and Victory, and attended the St. Johnsbury Trade School.
Henry worked for the State of Vermont Highway Department District #7 for 41 years
retiring in 1988. In his last several years with the State he took care of the Welcome Center
on Interstate 91 in Lyndon.
He was a member of the Caledonia County Snowmobile Trail Club, V.A.S.T., the Jaycees,
and the NRA. He enjoyed candlepin bowling in St. Johnsbury and Lyndonville as well as
bowling in many state tournaments throughout the years. An avid skier and outdoorsman,
Henry also enjoyed hunting, fly fishing, ice fishing, snowmobiling, and maple sugaring.
Survivors include his sister, Elsie Cady and husband Clark of Lyndonville; two brothers,
George Lund and wife Hope of Lyndonville, and Milton Lund and wife Eleanor of Waterford;
a brother in-law, Marvin Olson of East Haven; many nieces and nephews; his close friends,
Dale and Marlene Somerville of Victory; and many other close friends.
He was predeceased by his parents; three sisters, Minnie Olson on Feb. 22, 2009; Izola
Irwin and her husband John, and Helen Farmer and her husband Eugene.
A memorial service will be held Thursday, March 5, at 11 a.m. at the Lyndon Bible Church in
Lyndon, with the Rev. Joel Battaglia officiating. Spring burial will be in Appleton Cemetery in
Granby. There will be no visiting hours.
