PIPER: Dorothy S. , 90, of 705 New Britain Ave., Hartford, Conn., wife of the
late Glenn "Sam" Walter Piper, died Thurs., July 19, 2001, at Avery Heights
in Hartford. Born in Fitchburg, Mass., she was the daughter of the late
Dwight and Grace (Campbell) Simpson. Mrs. Piper had lived in the
Hartford area since 1955, was a member of the First Church of Christ in
Wethersfield and was also a former member of the church choir. She was a
graduate of St. Johnsbury Academy in St. Johnsbury, Vt., worked for over
30 years at United Technologies, was a member of the Eastern Star and
the Grange in Vermont. She is survived by two daughters, Suzanne Pedretti
and her husband Donald of South Thomaston, Maine, and Jane Piper of
Cromwell; four grandchildren, Robert, Michael and Mark Waters, and
Karen Catalfamo; and several great-grandchildren. She was predeceased
by a daughter, Diane Piper Waters; a twin brother, Richard Simpson; and
a sister, Ethel Bixby. There will be no services or calling hours, and burial
will be in St. Johnsbury Center, Vt., at the convenience of the family. In lieu
of flowers, friends are asked to make donations in her memory to the
Alzheimer Disease Research, 15825 Shady Grove Rd., Suite 140, Rockville, MD 20850.
