Rosemarie (Yetter) Snapp , 70, formerly of St. Johnsbury, died peacefully at
her home in Greenfield, Mass., Sunday, April 1, 2007, following a brief
illness. She was born in Greenfield on March 6, 1937, the daughter of
Frank J. Yetter Sr. and Mildred (Brown) Yetter. She was educated in
Greenfield schools, and was a 1955 graduate of Greenfield High School. In
1957, she married Wesley Snapp. Soon after their wedding, she and Wes
moved to St. Johnsbury where he taught at St. Johnsbury Academy while
she was a dorm mother to 30 boys. They moved back to Greenfield in 1964,
and spent the rest of their nearly 50 years together there. Rosemarie was
primarily a homemaker but also worked at the family store, Yetter the
Florist, and later at Sandri Oil of Greenfield. She was an accomplished
pianist and singer, having played with many local bands, including The
Hofftones and The Clif Symonds Band. She involved herself in numerous
civic shows and benefits, including the Franklin County Hospital Follies,
and parents' organizations such as the Greenfield High School Band
Parents. In her later years, she turned her focus to elderly issues,
volunteering for the Greenfield Council on Aging. Music was her passion.
She loved playing, listening at home or going out to hear live jazz,
especially on the occasion of watching her sons play. Another great love
was the ocean. She and her husband enjoyed many hours gazing over the
Atlantic from perches in York Beach, Maine, and New Smyrna, Fla. She was
an adept "Sports Mom," at first tolerating, often commiserating, and
eventually reveling in her husband's and sons' pastimes. She is survived by
her husband of 49 years, Wesley M. Snapp of Greenfield; her brother, David
A. Yetter of Greenfield; her three sons, Brian Snapp of Orlando, Fla.,
Douglas Snapp of Mankato, Minn., and Daniel Snapp of Chaska, Minn.; four
grandchildren, Rebecca, Joshua, Lauren and Meredith; and many nieces
and nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers, Frank J. Yetter Jr. and
Sidney A. Yetter. A memorial celebration will be held Sunday, April 15,
from 2 to 5 p.m. at Thomas Memorial Golf & Country Club, 29 Country Club
Lane, in Turners Falls, Mass. A picture board will be up for guests to share
their favorite pictures of Rosemarie, and the stories contained therein.
Donations in her memory can be made to Hospice of Franklin County Inc., 3329 Conway St.,
Suite 2, Greenfield, MA 01301; and JazzMN Inc., P.O. Box
790, Minneapolis, MN 55403. JazzMN is a nonprofit organization founded
by Dr. Douglas Snapp; its mission is to promote, preserve and perpetuate
jazz music.
