Melissa L. Jenkins, 33, of St. Johnsbury, died Monday, March 26, 2012.
Melissa was born on Nov. 23, 1978 in Berlin, Vt., the daughter of Richard and Phil Ann (Langmaid) Jenkins.
Melissa attended graded school in St. Johnsbury and graduated from Danville High School in 1996. She attended Plymouth State College and Montclair State University in New Jersey, graduating from Lyndon State College with a bachelor's degree in natural science. Melissa was presently attending St. Michael's College where she was very close to receiving her master's degree.
A beloved and respected teacher, Ms. Jenkins taught physics in the science department at St. Johnsbury Academy. She became very close to the dorm students while proctoring in her earlier years at SJA. She coached freshman girls' basketball and soccer. For eighteen years, she waitressed weekends and summers at the Creamery Restaurant in Danville. She first waitressed at the old Grandpa's Cigar in St. Johnsbury as a teenager.
Melissa loved people and was always willing to help. She was a very loving mother, daughter, sister and friend. Her family was most important, but her greatest joy came from her son Ty.
Survivors include her son Ty Robertson; her parents Richard and Phil Ann; her brother John Jenkins; her half-brother Robbie Ball; her aunts and
uncles: Alana Langmaid and husband Ed Jarrosak, Alan and Sue Langmaid, Lee Beattie and Cliff Langmaid, Chip Langmaid, Martin Beattie, Linda and Glenn Gadapee, Reg and Karen Jenkins, Marcia and Rick Davis; her cousins: Jennifer; Bryan, Kaylie, Katie, Sami, Parker and Wyatt; Heather, Jeremy, Austin and Logan; Meridith, Eric, Jade and Cam; Jeff; Kelly and Sterling; Philip, Plynn and Sara; Scott, Samantha, Dana and Ethan; Derrick, Becky, Dawson and Preston; many friends including Randy, Stephanie, B.J., Byron, Dawn, Jonas, Lindsey, the Wyands, the Tolls, the Beatties, the Craigs, the Bennetts and the Langmaids.
There will be a memorial service held at Alumni Memorial Gymnasium, on the campus of St. Johnsbury Academy, at 4 p.m. on Friday, March 30. This event is open to all who knew and loved Melissa.
