Dana S. Redington , 95, a long-time teacher and coach, died at Langdon Place, 60 Middle Road, Dover, N.H., on June 27, 2007. Born in Kendallville, Ind., Mr. Redington graduated from Pomona High School in 1929 and after a short stint in the U.S. Forest Service, he attended Dartmouth College from which he graduated in 1934. At Dartmouth he joined Kappa Kappa Kappa and served as president of the Inter-fraternity Council during his senior year. After college, Mr. Redington began his distinguished teaching career at St. Johnsbury Academy in the field of science and math. While in St. Johnsbury, he married Barbara Twombly of that town. After teaching successively at Kimball Union Academy in Meriden, N.H., and at Burr and Burton Seminary in Manchester, Vt., he moved his family to California, where he taught for 17 years at Cate School, a private school for boys. At Cate he taught chemistry and physics and served as college counselor, athletic director and coach of varsity basketball and baseball. The Redington Cup is given in his memory to two athletes who have demonstrated exemplary sportsmanship. Mr. Redington completed graduate work at the University of Vermont, U.C. Santa Barbara and Claremont College, receiving his M.Ed. in Science in 1960 from the University of New Mexico. After he left Cate School in 1968, he spent a year as the registrar at Mackinac College on Mackinac Island, Mich. He and Mrs. Redington returned to California the following year, where he returned to teaching science and math at the Midland School in Los Olivos, Calif. In 1972 Mr. Redington retired and moved to Laconia, N.H., where he was active in the United Church of Christ in that city and statewide for the N.H. U.C.C. Conference. He was cited for his service in 1981 by the N.H. Conference and in 1986 the Laconia congregation bestowed on him their highest accolade, the churchmanship award. For eight years he served as the editor of Home Devotions, a publication intended for use by those who could not attend church. In 2004 he was named director emeritus of Home Devotions. During that year, he moved to Dover from Concord, where he had lived for the previous 13 years. Throughout his life and work, Mr. Redington was recognized for his integrity, his patience, his organizational skills and his sense of humor. He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Barbara Twombly Redington of Dover; a son, Richard Redington of Chautauqua, N.Y., a daughter, Katherine Morgan, of Durham, N.H., five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. A private family celebration of his life was held on June 29, 2007. The family suggests that gifts honoring the memory of Dana Redington may be made to Cate School, P.O.
