Carl R. Duff, age 87, of Wilmington, MA, formerly of South Burlington and Barre, VT, died Monday, November 9, 2009, at Lahey Clinic in Burlington, MA surrounded by his family.
Born in Holland, Vermont on September 5, 1922, Carl was the dear son of the late Edmund and Bessie (Patton) Duff. Carl was a Teacher and Principal in the St. Johnsbury and Barre Vermont School Systems for many years, retiring in 1984.
In his spare time, Carl enjoyed refinishing furniture, re-canning chairs, collecting antiques, and gardening. Carl will be remembered as a dedicated teacher, caring family man, and a good friend.
Carl was the beloved husband of 62 years to Joyce M. (Twiss) Duff, devoted father of Sylvia Rosenberger of Arkansas, Tina Astore & her husband Thomas of Burlington, MA, and Chris Duff & his significant other Tom Maranto of Medford, MA, loving grandfather of Adam Young, Alex Young, Jeremy MacLeod, Nicholas Rosenberger, the late Karen Yahara and Bryan Rosenberger, and great-grandchildren Henry Astore, Liam Astore, Mischika Yahara, Max Young, Alden, Elise, & Hannah Young, Emme Young, Sabin Young, and Madison MacLeod, dear brother of Clifford Duff, Floyd Duff, and Arthur Duff all of Connecticut, Veeda Cabana of New Hampshire, and Doris Clough of Florida, Carl is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Service will be held at the Nichols Funeral Home, Inc., 187 Middlesex Ave. (Rte. 62), Wilmington, MA on Friday, November 13th at 11:00 a.m. Graveside Services will be held on Saturday, November 14th, at 1:30 p.m. in the family lot at Hope Cemetery in Barre , VT. Immediately following the burial a reception will be held at the Hedding United Methodist Church, 40 Washington St., Barre, VT.
