ROBERTS: Barbara Hamilton , 81, a longtime resident of Danville, an educator and a homemaker,
died Tuesday, March 12, 2002. Barbara was born Feb. 6, 1921, in St. Johnsbury, to Dr. William A. and Frances (Clement) Hamilton.
She graduated from Philips Academy in Danville in 1939 and Simmons College in Boston, Mass., in 1943,
with a bachelor of science degree in home economics. Barbara began her professional career working for the Junkett Company
in New York from 1943 to 1945 and was the head of the Milbourne High School food service in Milbourne, N.J. from 1945 to 1948.
She taught home economics at St. Johnsbury Academy from 1948 to 1953. From 1977 until 1988 she was the correspondence secretary
for the American Society of Dowsers. She was honored as the society\'s Dowser of the Year in 1986.
She was a member of the Danville Congregational Church, and enjoyed people, gardening, travel and was devoted to her family.
Barbara was predeceased in January, 2002, by her husband of 50 years, Llewellyn Roberts.
She was also predeceased by her twin sister, Beverly (Hamilton) Jenks, a brother, Paul Hamilton, and a son-in-law, Thomas Rowland.
She is survived by six children, Priscilla Carpenter of Burlington, Prudence Westerberg and husband Frederick of Fryeburg, Maine,
Polly Rowland of Burlington, John Roberts and wife Linda of Raleigh, N.C., Judith Roberts of Waterbury Center, and
Jeanne Adams and husband John of Terrell, N.C.; 14 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren;
and a sister, Marion (Hamilton) and husband Robert Morse of Venice, Fla. Visiting hours will be held at the Sayles Funeral Home,
Thursday evening, March 14, from 5 to 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held Friday, March 15, at 10 a.m. at the
Danville Congregational Church, with the Rev. Rona Tyndall, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in May at the Danville Green Cemetery.
