Dean Allen, 52, of St. Johnsbury died at his home on Sunday, June 6, 2016.
Dean was born on Nov. 22, 1963, the day John F. Kennedy was assassinated. Dean attended St. Johnsbury schools and proudly graduated from St. Johnsbury Academy in the class of 1982. Dean struggled with many challenges in his life but he also had many gifts to share as well.
He often walked or bicycled around St. Johnsbury and probably had a reputation as a "town character". Certainly, he was well known at White's Market where he and his lifelong partner Pauline Desilets liked to shop. In his younger years, Dean liked to draw and completed many very detailed drawings, which he often shared with family. Residents may remember the rather large portraits of himself and Pauline that Dean created and displayed on his front porch.
Dean appreciated his family and rarely missed an opportunity to attend family gatherings. The family especially relished those Thanksgivings when Dean's birthday and Thanksgiving fell on the same day and we could celebrate double "turkey day".
He enjoyed being an uncle to his many nieces and nephews and was especially close to Curtis and Amanda who lived nearby. Dean enjoyed spending time with his partner, Pauline, whether they were walking, eating out, camping at Lake George, visiting family or just staying home.
Dean was predeceased by his parents, Forrest and Gloria Allen, and brother Wayne. He will be sadly missed by his lifelong partner Pauline, siblings Chris and husband Tom, Judi, Michael and wife Denise, Bruce, Brian and wife Susan; many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.
Services will be held at the Mt. Calvary Cemetery on Thursday, June 16 at 11 a.m. with Fr. Bernard Gaudreau officiating. Anyone wishing to attend is welcome.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a random act of kindness toward someone with a challenge, whether it be physical or mental.
