Michael Murphy, St. Johnsbury native, died in Brattleboro this past week at the age of 60.
Michael was born in St. Johnsbury on April 16, 1956. He
graduated from St. Johnsbury Academy with the class of 1974.
In his youth Michael was a gifted skier and was one of the top
junior racers in the east. As a kid he was known for long
distance wheelies on his banana bike, an intimidating curve ball
in Little League, a smooth stroke with a pool cue, and won the
local Punt, Pass, and Kick competition. Later he spent several
years working in the hospitality industry in Lake Tahoe,
California, before returning to Vermont, spending time in St. Johnsbury and Brattleboro.
He was predeceased by his parents Bernard "BJ" and Theresa
Murphy, and an older brother James. He is survived by his two
brothers: Stephen Murphy and Stacey Dugan of St. Johnsbury,
and Peter Murphy and wife Julie of Bretton Woods N.H. He will
also be missed by six nieces and nephews and their families:
Danielle, Shane, Trevor, Whitney, Ryan and Cooper.
A private service will be held at the convenience of the family.
