William "Bill" Moore, age 68, passed away on Thursday,
Sept. 11, 2014 after a gallant battle with leukemia. He
was born in St. Johnsbury Vt. on Sept. 13, 1945 to Leslie
Frederick Moore and Claire Elizabeth Horton Moore. He
attended schools in St. Johnsbury and graduated from
St. Johnsbury Academy, class of 1963. He went on to
college and graduated from Dartmouth College in
Hanover, N.H. in 1967 and later from Columbia
University in New York City, where he received his
doctoral degree. He spent a year doing graduate work in
French at the University of Aberdeen in Scotland. He
taught French and English literature at Phillips Exeter
Academy in Exeter, N.H. and later at Milton Academy in
Milton, Mass. until his retirement.
He married Nina Seidenman, and they both taught at Milton Academy. They
both traveled extensively in Hawaii, France, United Kingdom, China, Cambodia
and various places around the world. One of Bill's last trips was a cruise around
South America through the Straits of Magellan. He shared many photos of his
trips with his family and friends. During his retirement he developed his
backyard into a lovely English and Japanese inspired garden with a variety of
flowers and shrubs and was in the process of updating his home with a solarium
overlooking his gardens and remodeling the kitchen and dining areas. During
this past year, he spent many weekends with his cousins in Maine at their Sebago Lake retreat.
Bill was predeceased by his wife Nina, a brother Chuck, a sister Bonnie, his
father Leslie and his mother Claire, his aunt Adelaide Horton Hedman and her
husband Dr. Warren Hedman, and his aunt Agnes Byrd and her husband
Marshall Byrd. He is survived by his aunt Alice (late Donald) Moore of
Lyndonville, Vt.; aunt Elizabeth (late Charles) Horton of No. Hatley PQ Canada.
Survivors also include his cousins, Leslie Moore, (late Sonia) of Newtown, Pa.,
and his children Jamie Moore , Jeremy and Melissa Moore and David and Nicole
Moore and their children Sonia and Andrew; Karen Moore and Dana Leavitt of
Kirby Vt. and their daughter Heather Leavitt; Connie (late Jean-Guy) Beliveau
of Charlotte, Vt., and their children Michelle Monroe of South Burlington, Vt.,
and her children Alexander Davis and his fiancée Kayla Bird of Lynn Mass.,
Martina Monroe, Makela Monroe and Tristyn Beliveau; Denise and Tim Smith of
St. Albans, Vt. and their children MacKenzie, Duffy and Nellie; Chantal Beliveau
of So. Burlington, Vt.; Lia Beliveau of Burlington, Vt.; Marcia Byrd (late Charles)
Prather of Lutz, Fla., and their children Laura and Chuck; Margaret "Peg" Byrd
and Gary Pixley of Lake Placid, Fla. and their children Donna Dodd and Mike
Yelvington; Charles and Peg Horton of Saco, Maine and their children Charles
and Wesley; and John Horton of Weld, Maine. Bill will be sadly missed by
extended family, many friends and former students.
A celebration of his life will be held on Oct. 11, 2014 at 4 p.m. at Milton Academy's Straus Hall in Milton, Mass.
