Wayland R. Sinclair, 69, of South Wheelock and formerly of St. Johnsbury, died Saturday, June 1, 2013, while at the V.A. Hospital in White River Junction, Vt. He was born April 21, 1944, in St. Johnsbury, the son of Wayland and Mariam (Abbot) Sinclair. He graduated from St. Johnsbury Trade School in 1963. He then served his country in the U.S. Army. Wayland worked for over 26 years as the photo editor for The Caledonian-Record newspaper in St. Johnsbury. He was a former member of the St. Johnsbury Masonic Lodge, the St. Johnsbury Lions club, the St. Johnsbury Moose Lodge, the Central Vermont Harley Owners Group and the Caledonia County Field and Stream Club where he was a director. He was also a former hunter safety instructor for the State of Vermont. He was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans, American Legion Post 30 of Lyndonville and was on the Diversion Panel for Caledonia County. Favorite pastimes include fishing, hunting, riding his motorcycle and following NASCAR races, the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots. He loved his grandchildren, great-grandchildren and family. Survivors include his wife and best friend, Theresa "Terri" Sinclair of South Wheelock; six children, Cassie Sweeney and husband Jeffrey of Mohawk, N.Y., Valerie Rutledge of Lyndonville, Heather Sinclair of Herkimer, N.Y., Faith Therrien of St. Johnsbury, Jeff Wong and wife Carol of Davison, Mich., and Kevin Wong and wife Maria of Lorton, Va.; a sister, Nancy Isham of Morrisville; a brother-in-law, David Smith of Wheelock; several grandchildren and four great-grandsons. Wayland was predeceased by his parents; his son-in-law, Peter Rutledge; and three sisters, Geraldine Rundgren, Loretta Sinclair and Lorraine Smith. Funeral services will be held in Lyndonville at the Guibord Funeral Home on Saturday, June 8, 2013, at 11 a.m. with the pastor Steve Clark officiating. There will be no visiting hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations made in his memory may be directed to the Pope Memorial Animal Shelter, 4473 Barton-Orleans Road, Orleans, VT 05860.
