Wayland Phillips, 68, of Bethlehem, N.H., passed away suddenly on July 5, 2016, in his home.
Wayland was born in St. Johnsbury to Carl and Ethera (Tanner)
Phillips on April 28, 1948. He attended school in St. Johnsbury
and later served in the Vietnam War for three years (1967-1970) in the 504 Military Police Battalion.
Wayland married Gloria (Trembley) Phillips and lived in St. Johnsbury to raise their family.
Connors and Hoffman Footwear in Littleton and Lisbon
employed Wayland for many years. This is where he met and
married Julianna Phillips in 1983 and they owned and operated
Phillips Cleaning Service until retirement. He was a member of
the VFW #816 and the American Legion Post #68.
Wayland enjoyed his dogs, bowling, puzzles and camping. He
especially liked watching his late wife come home with her
many yard sale finds every weekend.
Wayland is survived by two sons: Christopher Phillips and wife
Jennifer of North Waterboro, Maine, and Shane Phillips of Saco,
Maine; three stepsons: Basil Colpitts and wife Victoria of
Littleton, Rob Colpitts of Bethlehem and William Colpitts and
wife Jodi of Bethlehem; several grandchildren and great-
grandchildren; brother Gary Phillips and wife Robin of
Bethlehem; sister Roberta Tanner of Newport, Vt., and several nieces and nephews.
Wayland was preceded by his father, Carl Phillips on March 16,
1995, his mother, Ethera (Tanner) Phillips on Nov. 28, 1991,
his wife, Julianna (Wyman) Phillips on July 29, 2015, and his
twin brothers Michael and Larry Phillips.
A graveside service will be held at the Maplewood Cemetery on Aug. 12 at 11 a.m.
A light luncheon will be served at VFW post #816 directly following the service.
