Michael J. Kennedy, of St. Johnsbury, passed away on Jan. 18, 2012 at
the St. Johnsbury Health and Rehabilitation Center at the age of 68.
Michael was born on December 2, 1943 in San Antonio, Texas, the
son of Harold W. and Marylyn (Sleeper) Kennedy. He was
predeceased by his parents and a nephew.
He graduated from St. Johnsbury Academy in 1961. Additionally he
received degrees in Accounting as a graduate of Bentley College and
the University of Vermont. Michael served in the Army during the
Vietnam War and was awarded two Purple Hearts. He spent some of
his happiest times growing up in Waterbury Center with his grandparents.
Over the years Michael worked for UVM, Smith, Batchelder & Rugg
and St. Johnsbury Trucking Co. He was often known by many in the
St. Johnsbury community as the "Mayor of Railroad Street." Michael
was a passionate musician, avid reader and sports fan.
Michael is survived by his son, Adam Kennedy of St. Johnsbury; his
daughters, Sarah Kennedy and grandson Tyler of Northfield; and
Georgia Greenwood and family of St. Johnsbury; a sister, Joanna
Easter of Florida; a brother, James Kennedy of St. Johnsbury; and
Jim's children, Jennifer and Robert Kennedy.
He had a special place in his heart for Ainsley Jayde (Georgia's granddaughter).
An informal gathering of family and friends will be held at the Sayles
Funeral Home on Saturday, January 21, 2012 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.
