James "Jim" Buck of Sutton passed away Monday evening, Oct. 20, 2014 at NVRH. He had been in a period of declining health for the last year. He was 72. He was born in St. Johnsbury on April 29, 1942, one of seven children born to Chester and Margaret (Lamontagne) Buck. He graduated from St. Johnsbury Academy. He was predeceased by his brothers: Richard Buck and his wife Valerie, David Buck, Thomas Buck; and two of his sisters: Beatrice Vilakis and DayneRae Buck. Jim was employed as a regional sales manager for Cumberland Farms. After retirement he served as administrator at The Moose Lodge #1779 where he had been active most his life. Jim enjoyed racing all his life; White Mountains in Woodstock, N.H. was his favorite track. He drove a car in the early days at the old Waterford Speedway, some at Thunder Road, Catamount Speedway, and at Bear Ridge. The Bruins were his favorite sports team. He loved to split wood and mow the lawn and missed those activities in recent months, and he loved playing the lottery!! He is survived by his wife Linda Ward of Sutton; his sister Debbie Chase and her husband Mark of Littleton N.H.; Jim's four children: Angela Buck of Franconia, N.H., Ronald Buck and wife Tammy of Springfield, Mass., Kristine Connaughton of Chicopee, Mass., Keri Venancio and husband Michael of Wilbraham, Mass.; Linda's two sons Kevin Ward of Lyndonville, Keith Ward and wife Shauneen of Sutton; Elaine Petty's two children whom he considered his step-children: Pamela Rust and her husband Jim, and Paul Petty; grandchildren and their families. He is also survived by two sisters-in-law: Louise Buck of St. Johnsbury and Virginia Buck of Lyndonville; brother-in-law Stanley Vilakis of Wilbraham, Mass.; Linda's four brothers, her sister, and their extended families; nieces and nephews. A gathering of friends and family will be held in Lyndonville at the Guibord Funeral Home this Sunday afternoon, Oct. 26, from 1-3 p.m concluding with a brief prayer service. Memorial contributions could be directed to either: Caledonia Home Health, 161 Sherman Dr., St. Johnsbury Vt. 05819; or to Lyndon Rescue Inc., PO Box 401, Lyndonville VT 05851.
