Gary Allen Sweetser, 29 Jul 1949 - 30 Apr 2020, son of Archelaus William Sweetser and Stella Ruth Brink. He was born in Burlington and lived many years in Waterbury, VT. He moved to Inverness FL. in 2013. Gary was predeceased by his first wife Misty Whalley, siblings Clyde, George, Elizabeth and his parents. He leaves twin sons Marcus and Lucus, brothers Archelaus, Gene, sisters Ruth and Leola, grandchildren Jacob and Isabelle and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Gary attended St. Johnsbury Trade school, then joined the Marines in 1967-70, was a Past Commander and life member of the Waterbury American Legion Post 59. Gary was a very proud member of AA and recently received his 30 year coin. He was a mentor to many in the program. He was greatly saddened by the closing of open AA meetings; Zoom meetings were not to his liking. He said AA meetings are essential programs and should be open with social distancing. Gary worked as a painter at the Vermont State Hospital, Classic Occasions Tent, mechanic/foreman, tending the greens and other maintenance at Sugarbush Golf course, and loved playing golf. He loved deep sea fishing since the late 1960's. He retired from Bombardier Transportation. Gary helped many Veterans and AA members recover. Gary loved setting up at the Waterbury flea market selling, shooting the breeze, and doing the same in FL. He became a gentle understanding man helping Veterans. Since his arrival in Florida, Gary sponsored several families annually buying their Christmas presents and food. His biggest joy since moving to Florida was riding his Harley trike. Gary is and will be missed. A memorial gathering will be held at a later date. Burial will be later at Veterans Cemetery in Randolph. Donations can be made to Saint Jude's Children's Hospital.
