EDWARD J. COUTURE FERRISBURGH - Edward J. Couture, 67, passed
away on Friday, July 24, 2009, in Porter Medical Center in Middlebury.
He was born on Feb. 23, 1942, in Newbury, Vt., the son of the late
Judes and Beaulah (Bean) Couture. He attended St. Johnsbury
Academy and St. Johnsbury Trade School. He married Jacqueline
Bijolle November 1960. Edward worked in Littleton, N.H. at Connor
and Hoffman Shoe Factory, and Wayne Building Material in St.
Johnsbury Center. He moved to Newport and worked for Prouty &
Miller Lumber Yard for five years, and was district manager for three
locations in Vergennes, Newport, and St. Johnsbury. Edward
purchased Vergennes Building Supply from Prouty and Miller in
1987, and he built his home in Ferrisburgh. He retired in 2005, and
continued to live in Ferrisburgh. His hobbies were horses, UVM
sports, golf, tractors, dogs, and going out for dinner with his friends.
He was a member of Vergennes Lions Club, Eagles Club in Vergennes,
and Elks Club in Burlington. Devoted husband, father, and
grandfather. Edward is survived by his wife of 48 years, Jacqueline
Couture of Ferrisburgh; three children, Joe Couture and wife Teal of
Charlotte, Matt Couture and wife Brittany of Addison, Michelle and
husband Steven Heitkamp of St. Albans; six grandchildren, Nate,
Nicole, Korbin, Jamison, Araeya, and Andrew; four sisters, Leah,
Alberta, Blanche, and Josephine; several nieces and nephews. A Mass
of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, July 28,
in St. Peter's Catholic Church in Vergennes. Interment will be in
Union Cemetery in Ferrisburgh. Friends may call at Brown-McClay
Funeral Home in Vergennes on Monday, July 27, from 6 to 8 p.m. In
