Douglas E. Bryer, 69, passed away
unexpectedly on Sunday, June 9, 2013. He was
born Sept. 4, 1943 in St. Johnsbury, the son of
Clarence and Mabel Knowlton Bryer. He married
Cynthia Pierce on Oct. 11, 1975 at the Wolcott Church of the Nazarene. He received
certification as a Forest Technician from Lake City Junior College and Forest Ranger School in
Lake City, Fla. He served in the U.S. Army in Liberia, West Africa where he helped build roads
for the government. Doug had worked as a surveyor for J.P.R.
Associates. He was employed for 23 years at the Vermont Electric Co-op, retiring in 2004. He also
worked in the Maintenance Department at Copley Hospital.
He was a faithful member of the Wolcott Church of the Nazarene, where he served on the
church board and was a Sunday School teacher. Doug was also a Cub Scout Den Leader.
He loved the outdoors, enjoying hunting and fishing and took great pride in the trees
surrounding his home. One of his favorite pastimes was buying
and selling items on e-bay. Doug enjoyed music and liked to sing.
Doug is survived by his wife, Cynthia; a son, Shaun Bryer; a brother, Joseph Bryer and wife,
Judy of Cadiz, Ky.; a sister, Alice Burnham of St. Johnsbury and several nieces, nephews and
cousins. He was predeceased by his parents; a brother, Leon Bryer and a sister, Madeline LaClair.
A memorial service will be held Friday, June 28, 2013 at 1 p.m. at the Wolcott Church of the
Nazarene. Interment will follow at 3 p.m. in Pleasant View Cemetery. White-Fiess Funeral Home
is in charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Wolcott Church
