Nancy Jean Barber , of St. Johnsbury, died Wednesday, May 25, 2005, at
Fletcher Allen Health Care in Burlington, Vt., at the age of 70 years. She
was born in St. Johnsbury, Feb. 12, 1935, the daughter of Maurice and
Helen (Barrett) Nichols. A graduate of St. Johnsbury Academy, Class of
1953, Nancy spent most of her working career at Fairbanks Scales as a
receptionist for nearly 30 years. Many area people will remember the many
gardens Nancy would maintain, especially her love for perennials.
Survivors include a son and his wife, Glenn and Peggy Barber of
Waterford; two daughters, JoAnn Craffey of Spring Grove, Ill., and Sharon
Jean and her husband Michael Fillion of Washington, Maine; a brother,
William Nichols of Daytona Beach, Fla.; nine grandchildren; seven
great-grandchildren; and two nieces and a nephews. Nancy leaves her
loving companion of 29 years, John A. Harney of St. Johnsbury. Services
and burial will be held at the convenience of the family. There will be no
visiting hours. Contributions in her memory may be made to the Vermont
