Mary E. Ide, 79, of Queens Road, Keene, N.H., died Thursday, Dec. 12, 2013, at the Catholic
Medical Center in Manchester, N.H. She was born in Burlington, Vt., Sept. 25, 1934,
the daughter of Henry and Elizabeth (Butler) Goss. She grew up in St. Johnsbury and was a 1953
graduate of St. Johnsbury Academy and attended the University of Vermont. She was
also a camp counselor at the Wohelo-The Lutheran Gulick Camps in Raymond, Maine.
Mrs. Ide was a resident of Keene for the past 60 years. She worked as a proofreader with the
Peerless Insurance Company in Keene. She later worked for 15 years in administration at
the Beech Hill Hospital in Dublin, N.H. Following retirement, she was an active volunteer at
The Cheshire Medical Center / Dartmouth Hitchcock, Keene. She was also active in the PTA and
taught Sunday school at the United Church of Christ in Keene, while her
children were in school. She enjoyed reading, crocheting, knitting, playing the piano, traveling and
gardening. Her favorite pastime was that as her role of wife, mother,
grandmother and great-grandmother, and she was overjoyed to be able to
babysit her first great-grandson, Syrus, at the age of 75.
She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Frederick C. Ide of Keene; her
children: Stephen C. Ide of Keene, Geoffrey G. Ide and his wife Geraldine
of North Walpole, N.H., Dawn E. Ide of Keene; five grandchildren: Becky
Bashaw, Geoffrey F. Ide, Stephanie Ide, Amanda Ide and Matthew Ide; and
five great-grandchildren: Brianna Ide, Chelsea Bashaw, Jordan Files, Anna
Files, and Syrus Letendre. She is also survived by two brothers, David
Goss of Spring Hill, Fla., Henry Goss of Tavares, Fla.; two sisters, Patricia
Blodgett and husband Theron of Atlantic Beach, Fla., Joyce Goss of
Arlington, Va.; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son, Patrick F. Ide in 1996.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2013, at 1 p.m. in
the United Church of Christ, 23 Central Square, Keene. Burial will follow in
the Monadnock View Cemetery, Park Avenue, Keene. Family and friends
are invited to call on Tuesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Foley Funeral Home, 49 Court Street, Keene.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Mrs. Ide's
memory to the Monadnock Humane Society, 101 West Swanzey Road, West Swanzey, NH 03446.
