MACHELL: Lucy A. (Larocque) , 64, of St. Johnsbury, died
Saturday evening, Sept. 18, 2004, at Northeastern Vermont
Regional Hospital in St. Johnsbury. She was born in Sutton, Vt.,
July 11, 1940, daughter of the late Donald O. and Beatrice
(Labor) Larocque Sr. Lucy was schooled in Barnet and attended
Mt. St. Joseph Academy in St. Johnsbury. Lucy was an active
member of the VFW Post 793 auxiliary in St. Johnsbury and was
a past Vermont State President, National Council Member, and
Vermont State Secretary. She was also active in the American
Legion Post 30 of Lyndon for many years. Known as the family
historian for the Larocque family, Lucy was instrumental in the
coordination of the University of Vermont Medical School's study
of the Larocque Syndrome Blood Disease. She loved spending
time with her three grandsons, her family and her friends. Lucy
also loved her feline companions who brought her much joy.
Survivors include her two children, Barbara A. Machell of
Lyndonville, and Buddy Machell and his wife Shelly Cole-Machell
of West Burke; three grandsons, Justin, Jacob and Ethan; two
brothers, Leigh Larocque and his wife Beverly of Passumpsic,
and Dale Kendall and his wife Phyllis of East Barnet; two sisters,
Dorothy Rossier and her husband Sam of Sutton, and Muriel
Rose of Jamestown, N.Y.; her aunt, Dorothy Sicard of Barton; her
uncle, William Malshuk of Irasburg; two sisters-in-law, Mona
Larocque of Gorham, N.H., and Sharon Larocque of North
Carolina; many nieces and nephews; and her extended VFW
family of over 30 years. She was predeceased by three brothers,
Donald Jr., Darrell and Dale Larocque; five sisters, Claire and
Clarice Larocque, Jeanette Eastman, Betty Smith and Marilyn
Borden. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Thursday,
Sept. 23, at 11 a.m., at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in
Lyndonville with the Rev. Stephen Nichols, celebrant. Burial will
follow in Lyndon Center Cemetery. Visiting hours will be held
Wednesday evening from 6-8 p.m., at the funeral home. In lieu of
flowers, donations made in Lucy Machell's memory may be
directed to the Make-A-Wish Foundation, 100 Dorset St., South Burlington, VT 05403.
