John Lambie Grady , 74, of Bradford, passed away on Aug. 29 at
Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center. He was born in St. Johnsbury,
Vt., on Oct. 25, 1933, the son of John Lambie and Williamina
(Stephen) Grady. John attended St. Johnsbury schools and graduated
from St. Johnsbury Trade School. He was a member of 13 Ski Club
and a past member of the Leanord Wood Lodge, No. 105, F.& A.M. On
Nov. 30, 1958, he married Faith Gaffield in Derby Line, Vt. Together
they raised twins, Heather and Bruce. His 24 years of military service
included overseas tours in North Africa, Greenland, Ward Hunt Island
in the Arctic Circle, the Aleutions, England, the Azores, Vietnam, the
Phillipines, Thailand, and Johnston Island in the Pacific, as well as
many stateside duty stations. Upon retirement in 1977, he was
employed by the Barnet School District and also by Northeastern
Vermont Regional Hospital in St. Johnsbury. He retired in October
2007, after 29 years. Among his many interests were skiing and
boating, and spending time with his family and friends. John is
survived by Faith, who was his loving wife of 49 years, as well as his
two children, Heather Paul of Owosso, Mich., and her husband
Douglas; and Bruce Grady of Bradford. He also leaves his
grandchildren Kendall Wolff of Frisco, Texas, and her husband Alan;
and Nichole Paul of St. Charles, Mich. He will be dearly missed by his
great grandson Timmy Evans. He will also be missed by his siblings,
William Grady of So. Burlington, Vt., and his wife Madeline; Catherine
Grady-Sicard of So. Burlington; Jane Grady of Barre, Vt.; and David
Grady of Vernon, Vt.; and his many nieces, nephews, and cousins. His
passing is a great loss for his closest friends Harry and Barbara
Byrne, and his godson Christopher. John's dry sense of humor and
love of telling grand stories will be greatly missed by everyone who
knew him. Visiting hours will be held at the Hale Funeral Home in
Bradford, on Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2008, from 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral services
will be held Wednesday Sept. 3, 2 p.m., at Hale Funeral Home, with
the Rev. Jane Wilson officiating; followed by a gathering at the Orford
Congregational Church. A private internment will be held at a future
date at the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery family lot.
