Jean Marie (Rix) Root , 67, of East Windsor, Conn., beloved wife
of Glenn A. Root, died Wednesday, July 11, 2007, at Hartford
Hospital surrounded by her loving family after a courageous battle
for 15 years against scleroderma. Jean was born in St.
Johnsbury, Vt., and graduated from St. Johnsbury Academy and
Becker College in Worcester, Mass. She lived in East Windsor
with her family for 42 years where she was a member of the
Wesley United Methodist Church and a library assistant at the
Warehouse Point Library for 24 years, retiring in 1999. Jean was
a loyal fan of the Boston Red Sox and UConn basketball. Her
family wishes to offer their very special thank you to Dr. Johnson
and the nurses and staff of the fifth floor palliative care unit at
Hartford Hospital. In addition to her husband, Glenn, Jean is
survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Keith and Mary Root
of Enfield, Conn., and Kevin and Kristin Root of Castle Rock,
Colo.; her daughter and son-in-law, Kathryn and Gordon Lloyd of
Palm Coast, Fla.; two sisters, Susan Harmon of Greenfield,
Mass., and Bonnie Robie and her husband, Gary of Newport
News, Va.; her grandchildren, Steven and David Lloyd and Brian
and Brendan Root; and several nieces and nephews. Jean was
also fortunate to have special neighbors and friends. A funeral
service will be held Saturday, July 14 at 9 a.m. in the Wesley
United Methodist Church, East Windsor. Burial will follow in
Springdale Cemetery. Visiting hours will be held Friday evening
from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Bassinger & Dowd Funeral Home, 37
Gardner St., East Windsor. In lieu of flowers, memorial donation
may be made to either Wesley United Methodist Church, 55 North
Main St., East Windsor, CT 06088 or Warehouse Point Library,
107 Main St., East Windsor, CT 06088.
