POULTNEY - A celebration of life was held July 30, at the Fair
Haven Inn for Harold L. "Harry" Stanyon, 76, who died July 15
at Rutland Regional Medical Center. Private burial was held in
Hillside Cemetery, Castleton.
He was born Sept. 17, 1937, in Gloversville, New York, the son
of the late Harold F. and Geraldine (Kuhn) Stanyon.
He was a graduate of St. Johnsbury Academy class of 1955. He
also attended Darrow School, Boston University and UVM.
He married Nancy (Noyes) Watts on the Farm in Castleton on July 29, 1984.
Harry was a member of the Poultney Rotary Club, where he had
served as president and treasurer, and New York Thoroughbred
Breeders Association. Harry was active with the Poultney
downtown revitalization and redevelopment.
He loved family, people, animals, horse racing and breeding
horses. Together with his wife, Nancy, they loved to go to
Saratoga and watch their horses.
Survivors include his wife, Nancy of Castleton; three sons,
Cortland Stanyon and his spouse Robert Daniell of Woodstock,
Timothy Stanyon of St. Johnsbury and Jeff Stanyon and spouse
Joann of Woodstock; two grandchildren, Timothy Stanyon and
Robert Flower; also his cousin, Dr. Don Wilsey of Gloversville, New York.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the
Rutland County Humane Society, 765 Stevens Road, Pittsford,
05763; or to the Special Olympics Vermont, 16 Gregory Drive,
Suite 2, South Burlington, 05403.
