Douglas W. McGregor, of Cokesbury Village, Hockessin,
Delaware, passed away at home on April 14, 2016, at
age 84. The son of the late Donald and Frances (Davis)
McGregor, he was born on March 12, 1932, and raised
in St. Johnsbury. He graduated from St. Johnsbury
Academy and Boston University School of Management.
During his three years in the U.S. Air Force in the mid-
fifties, Doug met and married his wife Meredith (Trull)
of Lowell, Mass. At the conclusion of his military
service, they moved to Wilmington, Del., early in 1958
where he worked a few years at DuPont and 32 years
at Hercules, primarily in international tax.
Doug was a long-time member of Hillcrest-Bellefonte
United Methodist Church, which he served as treasurer
for 22 years. More recently, he has been a member of
Aldersgate UMC. He held memberships in Passumpsic
Masonic Lodge No. 27 in St. Johnsbury, Delta Sigma Pi
fraternity and the Institute of Management
Accountants. He was an active volunteer in many
church, civic and charitable organizations over the
years, frequently serving in a leadership position.
Since early childhood, he spent summer vacations at
Ocean Park, Maine, where the extended family has
owned a beach-side cottage since 1945.
In addition to his wife of almost 59 years, Doug is
survived by his children: Susan New (Gene) of
Hockessin, Del., Ellen of Teaneck, N.J., and David
(Pamela) of Reston, Va.; grandchildren: James,
Christopher and Joseph New, Kelly and Eric Jimenez,
Amy Auker (Cameron), Kristin Benoit (Michael), Andrew
McGregor (Rachel), and Lauren McGregor; great-
grandson Levi Auker. He is also survived by a brother
Bruce (Karen) of Fort Myers, Fla., and a sister Jean
Rogers (Talmage) of Vero Beach, Fla.
A memorial service will be held at Aldersgate United
Methodist Church, 2313 Concord Pike, Wilmington, DE 19803
at 11 a.m. on Monday, April 18, 2016. In lieu of
flowers, contributions may be made to ACTS Legacy
Foundation / Cokesbury, 726 Loveville Rd., Hockessin, DE 19707.
