Dorothy "Dot" Flowers/Slifer , 75, after an extended illness of lung
disease, died on June 2, 2009, at her home in Lakeland, Fla., surrounded
by family and friends. She was born in St. Johnsbury, Vt., in 1933. She is
survived by her daughters, Cynthia Flowers of Tampa, Fla., Celia Merritt
and Karlene Schatz of Rogers, Ark.; her grandsons, Brian Frost of
Lakeland, Fla., and Robert Merritt of Fayetteville, Ark.; granddaughter,
Shawna Trolinger of Springdale, Ark.; two great-grandchildren, Maycee and
Jace Trolinger; her sister, Hazel Paquette of Bradenton, Fla.; and her
sister-in-law, Charlotte Smith of Gainesville, Ga., and Tampa, Fla. Dot was
retired from Wal-Mart, beginning her career in Springdale, Ark., and retiring
in Lakeland, Fla. She was active in her church, American Baptist Church,
and wishes to be remembered with memorial donations to Kitty City
Foundation, Inc., 5321 Gunn Highway, Tampa, FL 33624. A memorial
service will be held in celebration of her life at Gentry-Morrison Funeral
Home, (Northside Chapel), 5245 US Highway 98 North, Lakeland, FL 33809
on Friday, June 5, 2009, at 11 a.m. Her final resting place will be at
the Florida National Cemetery at Bushnell with her deceased husband,
John C. Slifer. Dot was loved in life and will be missed by her family.
