Dennis H. LeBlanc, 75, of St. Johnsbury died Tuesday morning June 18, 2013, at Northeastern Vermont Regional Hospital in St. Johnsbury following a long illness. Dennis was born Oct. 24, 1937 in St. Johnsbury, the only son of Howard and Ruth (Eastman) LeBlanc. Dennis graduated from St. Johnsbury Academy in 1956. He was a very involved athlete in sports while in attendance there including his membership on the 1952 State Championship football team. After high school he then entered the U.S. Navy where he served from 1956 to 1960 on a radar picket ship stationed in North Africa. After returning home to St. Johnsbury, Dennis remained in the National Guard for a while until he met Marvourine Hawkins and married and started a family with her on Oct. 20, 1962. They lived and raised their three sons in St. Johnsbury. Dennis ultimately landed a job delivering bread for the Tip Top Bakery and later for the J. J. Nissen Bakery Co. where he stocked shelves in stores throughout the Northeast Kingdom of Vermont and Northern New Hampshire for 40 years. He was known as the "Bread Man." Dennis's passion for sports never faded. He became involved with St. Johnsbury Little League and Babe Ruth baseball by volunteering as an umpire then eventually becoming a Vermont State Certified Umpire for 25 years. He then umpired high school and college baseball all around the state. He also was an avid runner for many years running in many road races along with his sons. He could also hold up his end of the conversation about most sports teams. Dennis also loved his family, friends and pets. He had a passion for music and for driving around the Vermont and New Hampshire countryside. He will be missed. Survivors include his wife of nearly 51 years, Marvourine LeBlanc of St. Johnsbury; two sons, Thomas LeBlanc and wife Sandra of South Burlington and Bryan LeBlanc of St. Johnsbury; four grandchildren, Alex and Sydney and Michael and Paul; his sister, Barbara Prue of St. Johnsbury; his mother in-law, Pauline Hawkins and her longtime companion Romeo Garand of St. Johnsbury; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents and his son Gregory LeBlanc. Funeral services will be private and held at the convenience of the family. Donations made in his memory may be directed to St. Johnsbury Baseball, P. O. Box 421, St. Johnsbury, VT 05819.
