HUMPHREY: Cedric "Zeke" G. Sr. , 69, died at his home in East Burke
Saturday, Nov. 2, 2002. He was born Nov. 2, 1933 in St. Johnsbury, the
son of the late Earl C. and Hazel L. (Dresser) Humphrey. He was a
graduate of the St. Johnsbury Trade School, Class of 1952. In 1954 he
entered the U.S. Army, serving three years. He then served five years
in the USAR Vermont Military District. On Aug. 27, 1955 he married
Marion Mitchell. Zeke worked for Vance Tree Contractors in Danville
for 10 years. Following that, he worked as a truck driver for the town
of Lyndon for 24 years. After his retirement he continued driving
truck for area contractors until failing health forced him to fully
retire. Zeke enjoyed his pulling ponies for many years, pulling
throughout New England and New York. He was a member of the
Eastern Draft Horse Pulling Association, Northeast Kingdom Pulling
Association and the Mid-State Draft Pony Association for many years.
Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Marion (Mitchell) Humphrey
of East Burke; four sons, Acklin Humphrey of Sheffield, William "Bill"
Humphrey and wife Cynthia Stuart of Concord, Cedric "Ced"
Humphrey Jr. and wife Judy of Indian Town, Fla., and Stanley
Humphrey and wife Jeannie of Waverly, Ohio; 11 grandchildren;
seven great-grandchildren; and his brother, Robert Humphrey and
wife Virginia of Naples, Fla. A memorial service will be held Saturday,
Nov. 9, at 11 a.m., at the Guibord Funeral Home with the minister,
Douglas Adams, officiating. Friends may visit with the family Friday
evening, Nov. 8, from 6-8 p.m., at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers,
donations made in Zeke's memory may be directed to the East Burke
Fire Brigade, P.O. Box 36, East Burke, VT 05832.
