Arthur A. Simonds, 84, died Saturday morning, Jan. 14, 2017,
at the home that he and Gail built in 1978, surrounded by his loving family.
Arthur was born in St. Johnsbury on March 15, 1932, the son of
Lee and Juliet (Piche) Simonds. He graduated from St.
Johnsbury Academy and served in the US Marine Corps from 1950 to 1953.
From 1953 to 1955 he worked in construction
and for a short time he worked for his father at Simonds Buick
Dealership, St. Johnsbury. In 1953 he married his wife of 60
years Linda Gail (Nourse) Simonds and they worked in
partnership operating a dairy farm in Maidstone, Vt., for 25 years.
Retiring from farming in 1978 Arthur then worked for
Connecticut Valley Dairy and later for Bert Peaslee on Bert's
potato farm for 20 plus years until retiring. He very much
enjoyed working for Bert and later Barbara Peaslee Smith.
Together Arthur and Gail enjoyed camping, snowmobiling, long
rides and listing to county music. Arthur's greatest enjoyment
was time he cherished with his family. Arthur was a devoted
husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
Surviving family members include four children: Linda M.
Simonds and Howard of Colorado, Arthur "Butch" Simonds and
wife Brenda of West Point, Va., Edward Simonds of Barre, Vt.,
Lisa Grimes and husband Tom of Groveton; seven
grandchildren: Courtney, Cade, Krista, Brent, Josh, Jake and
Elizabeth; seven great-grandchildren: Kyli, Jace, Aidan, Ethan,
Cloe, Adriana and Braylee; two very special nephews: Marc and
Steve Simonds; and a special niece, Debbie Levine. He was
predeceased by his loving wife Gail in 2013, his parents, a
granddaughter Tegan Elane Simonds, and a brother Harold L. Simonds.
There will be no services at this time but a Celebration of Life
will be held Monday afternoon, Jan. 16 at 1 p.m. at the
Groveton American Legion. Arthur and Gail will be buried on
their anniversary date of July 18, 2017.
Donations in lieu of flowers may be made in his memory to

the thanks from the family for the great care and support
during his final days.
