Arthur Robert "Bob" Meserve, 74, died on May 10, 2011 after a short battle with
cancer. His loving family was ever present in his final days, providing him great
courage and strength. He was born in St. Johnsbury, VT, August 27, 1936, the son
of Howard and Marguerite (McLaren) Meserve. Bob was a graduate of St. Johnsbury
Academy, Class of 1954. He spent his freshman year of college at Middlebury
and, following his father's death, attended and graduated from the University of
Vermont, Class of 1958. Bob served with the Vermont Air National
Guard until his honorable discharge in December 1964. He married his wife
of 46 years, Janet Wilson, on August 1, 1964. Their two children, Christine
and Richard have been blessed with his steadfast devotion. As his children
grew, attendance at school sports events and a variety of other activities
were of paramount importance to Bob. His commitment and involvement
carried on for his beloved grandchildren.
Bob had a long and successful career in the building supplies industry.
Although he had a strong work ethic, Bob's most rewarding and special
times were spent with his wife and family, often at their summer cottage on
the lake, or visiting with them in New Hampshire and Vermont. He
treasured being a part of his adult childrens' lives and families.
Simple living brought him joy. Indeed, a delightful day included a long walk
with a family member, friend, a granddog or on his own. For the past 11
years, Bob was dedicated to the care of his mother, Marguerite. His
compassionate care was often sprinkled with a sense of humor and he was
a loyal and generous son. Bob will be remembered lovingly by many and forever missed.
He was predeceased by his father, Howard Meserve and his stepfather,
Elmer W. Chamberlin. Survivors include his mother, Marguerite Chamberlin
of Monroe, NH; his wife of 46 years, Janet Meserve of Yarmouth, ME; a
daughter, Christine Bowen and husband Douglas of Williston, VT; a son,
Richard Meserve and wife Jennifer of Falmouth, ME; and six grandchildren,
Shannon, Katrina, Hannah, Kaitlin, Josh, and Jake.
There will be no calling hours. A private graveside service will be held at a
later date in the Monroe Village Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial
contributions may be made to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute.
