Allen Addison Donaghy, longtime St. Johns- bury Realtor,
passed away peacefully at home Sunday, May 1, 2016 at the age of 75.
He was born in St. Johnsbury on May 19, 1940, the son of A.
Addison and Evangeline (Chaffee) Donaghy. He was
predeceased by a sister Harriett Echholm.
A 1958 graduate of St. Johnsbury, Allen graduated from Colby
College and obtained a Masters degree from the University of
Illinois. After serving in the U.S. Air Force, Allen entered the
family business at St. Johnsbury Real Estate Agency, located
at the head of Main Street. He was twice named Vermont
Realtor of the Year and was a former president of the Vermont
Realtor Association. He was a past member of The Walden
Club and the St. Johnsbury Kiwanis Club and particularly
enjoyed his affiliation with the St. Johnsbury Country Club of
which he was a past president.
He and Lucia especially enjoyed world travel with his
grandchildren and his sister-in-law and her husband, Maris
and Jon May. He loved to hunt, ski and spend time at their camp in Sutton.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Lucia (Andereck)
Donaghy; son Andy Donaghy and his wife Sandy of St.
Johnsbury; daughter Sarah Broome and husband Dwight of
St. Johnsbury; nine grandchildren: Andy's three children,
Andereck A. Donaghy, Haley E. Donaghy and Riley Evangeline
Donaghy; Sarah's four children: Amy Evangeline Broome,
Laura M. Broome and fiancé Andrew S. Gordon, Rachel J.
Broome, and E. Addison Broome; Sandy's two children David
and Lauren Pendleton; four great-grandchildren Alexander,
London, Lacey, and Ireland; Lucia's two sisters: Maris May
and husband Jon of Massachusetts, Haven Lane and husband
Alan of Arizona; nieces and nephews and cousins.
A gathering of friends and family will be held at the St.
Johnsbury Country Club on his birthday, Thursday, May 19, 2016
from 4-6 p.m. Anyone wishing to attend is welcome.
